My Community
Hello, library and information enthusiasts!
As an introductory blog post, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you a little about myself as well as my local community, Grassy Park. As of the date of this blog post, I am a third-year Library and Information Sciences student at the University of the Western Cape. I have started this blog as part of an academic assignment and simply as a platform to express my view on the importance of Library and Information Sciences in my community.
Grassy Park can be be both homely and lively, and what I mean by this is that the residential areas are often quiet, yet within walking distance one can find the suburb’s array of bustling shops and businesses. These businesses consist of anything from supermarkets, to butcheries, to clothing shops; one can even find the odd printing store. Ironically, the local library somehow forms part of this hustle and bustle. Indeed, after just a few weeks of living here one would be able to deduce that many of the suburb’s services are concentrated in the main road.
By now it is clear that Grassy Park is the sort of area that can accommodate most if not all day-to-day needs. After around five years of staying in the area, I have come to learn that many of the community members are quite friendly. Like all suburbs, crime still exists, however much of the community has banded together to combat theft and suspicious behaviour through the use of group social media chats. With regards to Library and Information Sciences, Grassy Park is, on the surface, quite a well-informed community. Many of the suburb’s information services are easily accessible due to their close proximity to the main road.
In conclusion, I am proud to say that Grassy Park is a cosy yet bustling community filled with opportunity and potential. The closeness of commerce, information centres and other community services make Grassy Park an ideal area for people with all kinds of needs and ambitions.
